Designing a real-time decision system within live sports broadcasts

A first-of-its-kind system connecting live NBA gameplay with personalized bet tracking and real-time odds—integrating FanDuel data directly into Prime Video’s broadcast environment to support timely decision-making within live viewing.

Challenge

Enable users to make timely betting decisions within a live broadcast—translating complex, fast-changing odds into clear, actionable signals without disrupting viewing.

Approach

As UX Lead, I defined the system architecture, interaction models, and data visualizations for Bet Tracking and Live Odds. Focused on decision timing, flexible evaluation across bet types, and validation through testing with bettor archetypes.

BET TRACKING

Real-time decision context for monitoring and managing active wagers.

The Bet Tracking experience allows users to link their Prime Video and FanDuel accounts to monitor active wagers in real time without leaving the NBA broadcast—keeping key decision context visible during gameplay.

Built on the Stats View framework, the system balances information density and clarity through scalable bet cards that surface moneylines, spreads, totals, props, and parlays in a format optimized for rapid evaluation on living room devices.

Clear visual states and structured data reduce interpretation time, enabling users to quickly assess bet status and make follow-on decisions without disrupting the viewing experience.

The bet cards were designed to maintain decision clarity across hundreds of FanDuel markets within a single NBA game. Semantic color cues signal Open, Win, and Lost states, while accessibility and data structure ensure rapid interpretation and alignment with bettor expectations.

LIVE ODDS VIEW

A decision cockpit for identifying live betting opportunities.

The Live Odds View supports a lean-back experience where users can monitor active bets alongside shifting odds and live gameplay—keeping decision opportunities in context of the live broadcast.

Designed in an L-bar layout, dynamic odds update continuously along the screen edge, while a color-coded gauge signals momentum as outcomes approach, enabling quick evaluation of potential actions.

Balancing visual scale, broadcast constraints, and data clarity, the system transforms complex odds into interpretable signals, allowing users to assess opportunities and act without breaking viewing focus.

A color-coded odds gauge translates probability into a clear visual signal, helping users quickly interpret momentum as players or events approach an outcome. Designed to support rapid evaluation without distraction, the system reinforces intuitive understanding of changing conditions. The visualization scales across both predictive probabilities and stat-based metrics, maintaining consistency across team, player, and event-driven contexts.

IMPACT

The launch of NBA Bet Tracking and Odds View marked Prime Video’s first integration of personalized betting within a live broadcast—a milestone collaboration with the NBA and FanDuel that introduced a new level of interactivity for sports fans.
