STATS FRAMEWORK
Redefining Real-Time Sports Insights
Overview
As Prime Video’s live sports portfolio expanded, the legacy stats experience required a redesign—evolving into a unified, cross-sport framework for exploring real-time insights across leagues, teams, and players.
Role
Senior UX Designer
Amazon Prime Video
2022-2025
Challenge
Transform complex, multi-sport data into an intuitive overlay system that blends traditional box scores with AWS-powered advanced metrics—allowing fans to browse insights without interrupting live gameplay.
Approach
As Senior UX Designer on the Playback Experience team, I led information architecture, visualization, and UI design—defining scalable patterns and fan-first metrics through close collaboration, research, and testing.
STATS FRAMEWORK
Serving as the entry point into the new Stats experience, the Stats Overview presents a quick, glanceable snapshot of the match.
Soccer was used as the baseline sport for the framework exploration, enabling scalable patterns for team-vs-team data across other leagues.
Research and surveys identified score and game time, team comparison, and league standings as the most essential insights fans seek to stay connected to the game. Each card is fully navigable, allowing viewers to drill into expanded data sets when desired.
Designed for glimpse-ability, the overview delivers quick context during breaks or key moments and can be easily dismissed to return to full-screen gameplay.
TEAM STATS
A cornerstone of the new Stats Framework, the Team Stats Comparison card delivers the at-a-glance data fans value most: how each side is performing relative to the other.
Drawing inspiration from leading sports apps, the design uses team-color-coded sliding scales to instantly convey dominance across key metrics.
The overview highlights the top three comparative stats, while a drill-in view reveals a full, categorized breakdown that can scale from team-vs-team to player-vs-player data. A horizontal scroll bar enables effortless browsing through the complete collection of stats, ensuring clarity and speed even during live play.
STANDINGS
Designed as a sport-agnostic blueprint for league rankings, the Standings card gives viewers quick context on how teams stack up—both head-to-head and across the full league. The overview card surfaces a concise matchup comparison, highlighting the core metrics that define each team’s position.
Full Rankings
A deeper drill-in view expands to show full league standings with visual indicators such as row highlights for the current game’s teams and up/down movement markers for recent ranking shifts. The result is a clear, no-nonsense reference point for fans seeking a broader perspective on team performance and season context.
LINEUPS
A core pre-game and in-play feature, the Lineups card provides a clear snapshot of each team’s composition and strategy—showing who’s on the field and who’s available to sub in.
The overview highlights team formation and remaining substitutions as key indicators of tactical decision-making.
Full Roster
Drilling deeper reveals the full roster, including active players, bench listings, and manager details. Player-level metadata such as goals, red/yellow cards, and timestamped substitutions offer at-a-glance context. Designed with scalability in mind, the format seamlessly extends to other sports where position groups, rotations, or injuries play a defining role.
IMPACT
The Stats Framework established a scalable foundation for delivering real-time sports insights across Prime Video’s ever expanding live sports ecosystem.
Early regional testing validated the clarity of its information hierarchy and ease of navigation, informing refinements to interaction patterns ahead of rollout.
The framework has since been adopted and evolved for major launches—including NBA on Prime and the 2025 season of Thursday Night Football—introducing new highlight modules like Game Leaders to better align with North American fan expectations.
“Data visualization has become table stakes for modern sports streaming, and Prime is leaning in with real-time stat feeds powered by AWS without ever leaving the broadcast.”
